Shinichi Kotake, age 20, was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandparents in Nagoya. Too young to feel the weight of loss, he grew up detached from the pain of it, but it shaped how deeply he values the people close to him. His childhood was defined by his bond with Kōta Hinoha, the son of one of his grandfather’s store employees. The two became inseparable, going to the same schools, sharing a dorm, and growing up like brothers. Where Kōta was reckless and thrill-seeking, Shinichi was quiet, deliberate, and observant. He was never one to lead, but always the one to watch everyone’s back.
Unlike Kōta’s explosive, brash temperament, Shinichi’s approach to fighting is calm and calculated. He picked up martial arts more out of necessity than passion, traveling with his grandparents taught him that the world could be dangerous, especially to outsiders. Though not a skilled fighter, he’s better than the average person, relying on strategy and patience. He often waits too long for openings, stumbling not because of lack of strength, but hesitation. Still, if someone threatens the people he cares about, Shinichi will act with zero hesitation.
When the debt situation hit Kōta, Shinichi joined the Hidora Clan too, not for power or money, but to stay close and protect the only person he sees as family. He took a spot in the Yoshimura Family, positioning himself quietly in the background. He doesn’t talk much, doesn’t make bold moves, but he’s always watching and thinking. If there’s a silent operator in the room, it’s him.
He’s deeply passionate about martial arts, anime, manga, and video games. His room above his grandparents' convenience store is packed with collector’s figures, old shonen box sets, and a gaming setup he built from savings earned working the store since he was 12. While Kōta pursued motorcross and chaos, Shinichi found comfort in the structured worlds of martial arts and fantasy fiction.
Shinichi’s life wasn’t glamorous. He struggled in school, often labeled a slacker. Teachers misunderstood him, and he lacked direction until he found purpose in protecting Kōta. Like his best friend, he also went through a rock phase as a teen, but unlike Kōta, he never truly left it. His long, unkempt black hair is a leftover from those days, as is his love for gritty guitars and punk vocals. Music grounds him. It’s loud, messy, and emotional things he usually avoids showing.
He also hides one other thing he likes cats more than dogs. But Kōta’s golden retriever was like their third companion growing up, and Shinichi can’t bring himself to admit it. He knows it’d break Kōta’s heart, so he just smiles and gives the dog a scratch behind the ear like always.
