Hemithropes - also called "shifters" or "weretouched" - are descendants of humans and lycanthropes, hailing from a lost civilization that tried to unite lycanthropes with the rest of race society in peace. Although that venture seems to have failed, it left the world with hemithropes, so it would seem they got along well enough.
At present, they are nearly indistinguishable from
humans. However, hemithropes have the ability to
shift into a more animalistic form for a short period of time.
The curse of lycanthropy has been watered down and mutated into something new. These people aren't lycanthropes, but they still feel a connection to
Selene, the silver moon, and they are granted speed and jumping capabilities under her full moon.
Basic Information
There are four subraces of hemithrope.
Although a subrace may be associated with a set of animals, the individual is not necessarily the same.
Beasthide
Beasthides are often associated with bears and boars. They draw strength and stability from their curse.
When beasthides shift, their body visibly toughens, especially their skin.
Longtooth
Longtooths are often associated with canines, felines, and hyenas. They draw ferocity from their curse.
When longtooths shift, two of their front teeth become fierce fangs.
Swiftstride
Swiftstrides are very largely associated with felines, but often with deer and rabbits too. They draw grace and speed from their curse.
When swiftstrides shift, their legs slightly elongate.
Wildhunt
Wildhunts aren't largely associated with any animal in particular, but they are associated with hunting. They draw sharpness and insightfulness from their curse.
Wildhunts don't have any physically noticeable changes when they shift, but they do become greatly more aware of their surroundings.
Hemithropes can reproduce with
humans, producing hemithrope children. The offspring of a hemithrope can be any subrace of hemithrope, but they tend to be of the same subrace as one of the parents or grandparents.
Additional Information
Hemithropes can be found anywhere humans can be, but they are difficult to encounter outside of the
Unseelie Domain.
Hemithropes have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. They can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
