Halv-Dryad

Basic Information

Anatomy

Halv-dryads are human in their overall anatomy. However, their ears are pointed.

Biological Traits

Leafhair Halv-Dryads

Leafhair halv-dryads have leafy head hair that changes with the season. Although their head hair resembles leaves, it is technically more hair-like than leaf-like, yet doesn't fully count as either.

Leafless Halv-Dyrads

Leafless halv-dryads have human head hair of any human colour. Leafless halv-dryads are sometimes accused of being less dryadic than leafhair halv-dryads, which may be seen as a positive or negative thing depending on the accuser. Despite this, there is no known difference between leafhair and leafless halv-dryads aside from their hair.

Genetics and Reproduction

Halv-dryads can only reproduce with humans. When they do, they produce human offspring, sometimes with a small dryad groove pattern somewhere on their body. The offspring's descendants do not inherit this trait. Halv-dryad leafhair is treated as redhead in the context of the human-halv-dryad offspring's hair colour.

Growth Rate & Stages

Halv-dryads mature a lot slower than humans. They reach adulthood at age 30.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Halv-dryads are herbivores. They can consume meat, and they can enjoy it, but it provides no nourishment for them.

Biological Cycle

During the summer, a halv-dryad's leafhair is green like grass. During autumn, a halv-dryad's leafhair is orange/red like a redhead human. During the winter, a halv-dryad's leafhair is shed. During the spring, a halv-dryad's leafhair rapidly regrows green.   Note that not all halv-dryads have leafhair.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Halv-dryads are most often found in the Seelie Domain due to its population of dryads. Unlike dryads, halv-dryads are not restricted to any specific location.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Halv-dryads have darkvision, up to 60 ft. They cannot discern colour in darkness.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Halv-dryads most often go by human names, but some go by dryadic names.   This Fantasy Name Generator page should work well for randomly generating a dryadic name.   Dryad Name Generator

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Halv-dryads have an inherent understanding of and fluency in the Sylvan language from birth. Otherwise, they learn whichever language is in their region.

Common Myths and Legends

It is a common theory that the redhead hair colour first appeared in humans as the result of human-halv-dryad offspring. Although there is not much evidence to back up this theory, there is nothing to contradict it and no theories to compete against it.

Lifespan
200 years, up to 300 years
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Halv-dryads have circling and twirling markings all across their skin, barely a shade darker than the rest of their skin. At a distance, these markings appear to be physically cut into the halv-dryad, but they are not. These markings go by the term dryad grooves. The exact pattern of a halv-dryad's grooves is unique to that halv-dryad, like a fingerprint.
