Panh's pipes.

While a common instrument within the music sphere of Parnathus, the reed pipe of that land is made with hollowed stalks of the steam-side plants of nearby tributaries of the Breath of the underground. What Panh now holds in Levis is a remodelled version of that, made from this land's style in a hardier, more rugged style.

One of the first gifts that Kaid gave to Panh after they became lovers, the pipes were made by crafters in Natare, with the assistant of the growth magic inherent in the gardener style. Kaid traded the work for a set of amber beads they had collected earlier (whose own journey would lead them to becoming lovely buttons).

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The pipes themselves are still alive, requiring their roots to be sheathed in a small, portable basin of water between playings and the insides of the pipes regularly trimmed and scraped with a light cleaning brush.

Like many reed pipes, they are hollowed expanses of increasing length, each set to a note. Covering the ends of neighbouring lengths reduces the resonance along the chords, though the imprecision of the sound is often what makes a reed pipe's sound unique.

History

While made in Natare, the pipe's most notable moment was playing them at the entrance of the Saburra Desert Archive for the archivists there, after Panh and Kaid declared their partnership to each other in pairing bond. The sound played there, with glimmer floating all around was recorded to be one of the most wonderous sounds to ever come to the archive.

The pipes were also being played when the the current champion of the Mother of Monsters appeared to Panh to offer him role as current Guardian.
