Gorgon

In parnathum, in the cave network beneath the fields, there exists a species of being not quite like the others. They are beings infused with magic but generally not controlling it. Their link with nature is profound in its source but profane in its execution. They are the Gorgon.   Described by most as humanoids with reptilian eyes, including a third eyelid, and pronounced jaws (often with venomous fangs). At a distance they could be confused for human, though the light scales that coat their bodies would be more evident as you get closer.   The distinguishing feature of a gorgon is the "scar" tissue upon their back, from which between one and up to 40 snakes can appear. The snake and the gorgon are one being, and as such the snakes usually do not fully leave the gorgon, and if they do not for long and not very far from the main humanoid part of the body.   Almost entirely carnivorous, and extremely sentient, gorgons tend to stick to groups of 1 to 3, except to gather in more when it is time to expand the population. But the less said about gorgon mating habits the better.   The gorgons tend to habitat around the more moist parts of the cave network of parnathum, with rudimentary clothing being constructed often from either cave based plant matter or field plants that fall into the caves.   The most interesting part of their feeding habits comes from the swaying nature of their movements, that seem to bring pause to most of the sentient creatures of the fields of parnathum - reminiscent of being turned to stone.
