Early in life Devin consumed an apple from the Gnarled Grove  that made him just a touch supernaturally relaxing. As a person not yet socially formed this did things to the lad. He grew more attatched to having people like him, such that he made a deal with a mysterious being in the mines who danced with shadows for enhanced strength that he could easier impress people.
Growing up in one of the southern settlements of Levis, Devin grew close to a Foliad named Grisa, but while Grisa wanted to grow her garden and sell local crafts, Devin decided he wanted more people to see his worth and headed to the big city: Natare.
On his way to the city, Devin met the witch  Astrid, who told him about the dangers along the path - including the old human and Foliad runes around the forests (And specifically to stay away from them), but when Devin reached the city, and heard the swirling rumors about how Professor Thalia Moondance had gone missing exploring portals and runes, and how much pure fame such a reknown scientist like her had, Devin made it a life goal to get her back.
He settled in Natare a few years, residing on Echo Street, and working hard as a janitor for the Academy of Natare, while secretly hunting for rumors and knowledge on Thalia's studies.
He came across Nyx, Guardian of the runes, and a human adventurer - Naya Stormbringer , and while trying to seduce her to his team, was interrupted by Melody - a local gardener of the rooftop gardens littering Natare. They investigated and discovered a raider from Xylos the incubus lord's old retinue; who had the final piece of the puzzle to the portals between worlds.
Bringing together the pieces needed, Devin arranged a party of himself, Astrid, Nyx and Naya, but soon found the portals were not stable - no matter how hard Nyx and Astrid worked to direct the chaotic flow. They arrived in Parnathum and after a few adventures - like being robbed by centaurs, Thalia was returned to the group.
Unfortunately for Devin - both his illegal activities, and his potent disregard for people's feelings left him with none of the fame he desired - as people attributed the saving of Thalia to those in the party who had actually worked hard, none of the personal love he sought - as he left a string of paramors behind and they all realised he was using them for the attention; and a healthy jail sentence - for all that breaking and entering.
Eventually he was released, but by that time his name was mud enough that he was unable to do more than volunteer, cleaning the public spaces of the arboretum, until he had a heart attack at the age of 54.
