Death touched

In Nocturne society there exists a group of people called the death touched. Pale of skin and with ink bled eyes, their minds are brought vacant by some cosmic truth below the deepest anenome.
The death touch to most everyone else is a condition formed by diving too deep within Oceanus waters. It leaves the pigmentation of the skin paler and causes black scarring around and beneath the eyes. Psychologically it also compels the victim to dive deep more and more, causing a continual loop that exacerbates the condition, which has led some to believe that this is a permanent state once achieved.
Many death touched recount stories of unfathomable knowledge and arcane wonder deep beneath those deepest waves, and while some long lost Nocturne city could exist down there, scholars and wise men believe this is just the lack of oxygen caused by the extreme pressures of such deep waters.
