Crimson Caramel
In the subsections and counter culture that is Whencis, comes the invention of a semi-digestible sweet made in promise to Apolity .
Made in deep stone bowls hidden inside the mountain, where good little Foliad refuse to go, the crafters of Whencis take blood, freely given from their clients, and soak thumbtip sized pebbles in the liquid until the stones have absorbed a decent percentage of the liquid - this usually takes a few hours in the cool mountain.
Next a layer of crushed luxwood is coated over the stones, both to add texture and taste, and to stop the blood leaking from the stone in future processes. About 1kg of Luxwood is crushed for a 400g stone base, with half set aside after the first rolling.
Honey is whisked over a fire-blossom with spice flakes (usually something with taste-heat), citrus juice, and a thickening sap. The mixture is stirred consistantly, taken off the heat before it can crystallise sugar. A circuit of heat resistance allows the crafter to dip the crumbed stones into the caramel before they are crumbed in more luxwood and spice flakes. The process is repeated for at least 3 more layers, though care has to be taken to keep the caramel warm but not heating to burn or stick. The stones are then set to cool for 24 hours.
Kept in a small leaf satchel, the lollies are rarely eaten in public and never shared - unless you want some sort of weird disease from a stranger. The lollies are a private communion between the one who supplies the blood and Apolity, a reminder of the safety of the mountain. Those of a daring nature even swallow the stone at the centre rather than suck, despite Foliad bodies being unable to digest stone. With the quiet nature of the worship in this confectionary, it is unknown if Trolls or Demons can digest the core of this sweet, or even if the Luxwood is toxic to them.
