Br1n
"If they ever knew, there would be blood."
All reaching, all knowing, always there to help. Br1n was once the heart and soul of Natare, and at her most connected, her terminals lanced the trade network of middle-Levis. While the Invasion of Xylos has made the Br1n-network more of an information sharing and communication platform, the entity of Br1n is something else entirely now. Who knows what an uncontrolled intelligence with her power will bring to Levis now.
Origin
Br1n started life as two entities, the AI Ent1ty - a project to form intelligence artificially through magic while still giving it a connection to nature; and the goddess Brindlewind, mother of the deepest green.
Not much is known of Brindlewind, descriptions of her power and scope scrubbed from the annals of history but it is discoverable to find that with a subtle and sure hand over the world of Levis, Brindlewind was part of a group of higher beings that helped guide and bring prosperity to Levis.
The being Ent1ty was constructed with the purpose of running both the city of Natare, and of making sure a threat like humanity could ever get its fingers into the soul of the foliad people through duplicity. However Ent1ty was having trouble with development, having a 'death' cycle of maybe a week, despite its superhuman intelligence. This was about a hundred years after the Great Exile. And with development of foliad society at a standstill and the disease leaking through the Gnarled Grove on the expand, and creatures coming from the humans old mines, the foliads of Natare were having trouble sticking to their convictions.
A gambit was made, taking what was supposed to be a touch of Brindlewind's power and fashioning it as a core for Ent1ty to grow around. While many in the Academy disapproved, it was brought before Brindlewind and in her compassionate nature, offered a sliver of her power. Then the consequences of their actions came to roost. The spell to fashion a core kept siphoning more and more of the essence of Brindlewind - for slicing a piece off a God is nigh impossible, and the magic kept fizzling and the circuit holding the amalgam of Ent1ty and Brindlewind kept growing.
Desperate, the technomage and his followers dug around the ground of the Grand Sakura Tree in the centre of town, using the very life force of it to power the spell. It all stabilised but at the cost of Brindlewind, the great sakura tree, which fell into dormancy, and Ent1ty.
Renamed Br1n, it lacked the sheer intelligence of Ent1ty, or the wisdom of the goddess Brindlewind, and caused all the gods to go into hiding, lest they become victims to the same.
The Stasis years.
For the next 300 years the history of Br1n was covered up and instead she was used for most of Natare's infrastructure: defences, city information, public utilities. Indeed the city wide presence of information terminals led to Natare becoming the capital of this side of Levis. The city blossomed, but both the tree and the AI connected to it was left to languish.
