Autwon (Nation)
A literal nation in the clouds, Autwon is a sort of aerial archipelago that floats on a series of islands high above the western sea. Its continued flight is thought to be the result of unusual properties of the country's ore, with no known magical or scientific explanation more conclusive despite many years of mystery.
Visitors to Autwon are informed they have entered a socialist paradise, and that they should leave all of their possessions with an attendant at the border. Private property is strictly controlled and rationed in Autwon, and while the nation is willing to acknowledge the outside world's continued insistence on capitalist exchange and provides facilities for those who wish to store their "possessions" before entering, in principle it maintains that nothing "belongs" to anyone.
All tangible materials, whether necessary for living or purely recretional, are controlled and distributed by the state by means of its golem servitors. Every artist must create with the same tools, every restaurant serves the same meals and there are no shops. What would they sell? Even adventurers, on their rare visits to a nation that denies them the privilege of looting, often chafe at having to operate with what more or less amounts to a cookie-cutter set of gear distributed to all who enter the nation to practice any kind of heroism.
A highly autocratic state, Autwon is a socialist republic controlled by machine-like golems that seek the greatest good for the greatest number and redistribute property according to their own peculiar set of principles. This means that there is no guarantee from one moment to the next that anything given to a character won't be taken away from someone who needs it more, though this principle can also operate in reverse. The truly terrifying thing about the process, however, is the paperwork. Anyone involved in the nation's bizarre economy must answer a long series of questions each time a transfer is made so that the central operating system can track who needs what and for what reason.
