Koi
Koi are a race of amphibious humanoids known for their friendly disposition and undersea kingdoms.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Koi look similar to humans for the most part. Two arms, two legs and a head in all the locations you would expect them. Their skin however tends to have a mottled coloring to it and can be odd colors most often blues and greens but pinks and oranges have also been known to pop up. Along the sides of a kois legs are peculiar small holes about 8 cm apart all the way down to the ankle. When submerged a thin tendril emerges from these holes. These tendrils form together to create a thin membrane that actively fuses the koi's legs into a tail while underwater. This aids greatly in their ability to swim and makes them look a bit like their kin the Merfolk.
Genetics and Reproduction
Koi reproduce the old fashioned way. They give birth however to several small eggs.
Growth Rate & Stages
All Koi start out as a small egg with a roughly 5 cm radius. These eggs are cared for and protected by the kois parents for about 7 months after which the egg finally hatches and a young koi is born. Koi are very small, about the same size as a pixie upon hatching. They then steadily gain in size until they reach human height.
Koi are born with the ability to swim and understand basic concepts. This helps them survive in their underwater home.
Ecology and Habitats
Koi are an amphibious species. Because of this they can exist either above or below water and due to the depths they can be found at have a somewhat surprising resistance to cold despite often preferring tropical climates.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Koi are carnivores naturally and favor fish. They can get sustenance from plantlife but its harder for them to consume it with their sharpened teeth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Koi have good vision on both land and sea. Their eyes have adapted to darker depths of the ocean and they sport an ability to see in such light conditions because of it.
