The Golden Guard

The Golden Guard was an elite group of soldiers responsible for guarding the Palace of the Lionness and, most importantly, the Queen of Leland up until the fall of the queendom in 712.

A Highest Honor

While not the most elite force in Leland, to be even considered to join the ranks was considered an honor. One must show absolute devotion to the crown and prove themself to be a capable fighter and able to keep their wits about them.

Ready to be Commanded

Though most assume the name of the Golden Guard came from guarding the royal line or the golden accents on their uniforms, it actually came from a guard's willingness to be Commanded by the queen at any moment. They were ready and willing to be tools of the queen's golden tongue at her discretion. This became especially true in the later years of the queendom as the queens became increasingly paranoid about who they could actually trust.

Structure

The Golden Guard was initially split into two divisions: those responsible for guarding the Palace and those responsible for protecting the queen no matter where she went. A third, more secretive division was created in 523 in response to threats of rebellion.

Palace Guard

The palace guard acted as security for the palace and the grounds within the outer palace walls and was the division where all new recruits were accepted into. In addition to normal watch duties, they were responsible for properly screening those who entered the palace, as well as maintaining the peace among palace staff by dealing with reports of inappropriate behavior.

Queen's Guard

The queen's guard accompanied the queen wherever she went, whether she remained in the palace or went to tour the queendom. They were the most likely members of the guard to be Commanded due to their close and constant proximity to the queen. Until 523, only the most trusted members of the guard were able to join this division.

Secret Guard

The secret guard was to act as the queen's eyes and ears, primarily in Harmonil, but members were also stationed in other rebel hot-spots. They were responsible for hunting down rebels and getting information out of them by whatever means necessary. On occasion they were also responsible for taking out the queen's more well-known enemies in discrete fashion if she so ordered it. To be accepted into this division of the guard meant the queen trusted you above all others.
