Red Stone Squirrel

The Red Stone Squirrel is a species of squirrel native to the rocky forests of the Gildare Highlands.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Red Stone Squirrels mate once a year in the spring and with the same partner for life. Females give birth to litters of three to nine offspring.

Growth Rate & Stages

After birth, offspring are kept in dens deep within crevices in rocks where the family is responsible for caring for all the young. Young don't see daylight for weeks after birth and are expected to use Power of Geonature to find their way to the surface. Those who don't are still cared for, but their life expectancy is far shorter than average. Red Stone Squirrels are sexually mature by the end of their first year.

Ecology and Habitats

Red Stone Squirrels call the rocky forests of the Gildare Highlands home. They primarily live in cracks and crevices in the mountainside, forming dens deep within rock formations.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Red Stone Squirrels are omnivorous, gathering seeds and nuts from the surrounding forests during the warmer months and primarily hunting smaller rodents within cracks and crevices in the rocks during the colder months.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Red Stone Squirrels form social groups or families that occupy a single large den. Both males and females protect and gather food to feed young. When the family grows too large, the youngest squirrels are forced out and must find a new place to establish a den. Families are territorial.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Though they possess impressive hearing abilities, Red Stone Squirrels are most known for their use of Power of Geonature. This enmanity is primarily used as a method of sensing predators, but also any potential danger from shifts in the earth around them. Sometimes they are known to trap smaller rodents with shifting rocks to eat. Groups of these squirrels have been known to set off landslides when their habitat is disturbed, limiting logging and mining operations in area with high populations.
