Eflet (ehf leht)

An eflet is a specially created set of papers that display the same thing when one is written on. During the manufacturing process, the energy within the individual pieces of paper are tied together using Power of Composition in a way that maintains uniformity between all parts of the set. Depending on the intended use of the eflet, it may involve as few as two or as many as ten pieces of paper. The entire process must be done carefully because even a small crease in one paper may result in the eflet connection being disrupted. Despite this technique being used for centuries, there is still no consensus on exactly how it works--whether the connection is maintained in the physical world or if the connection is somehow created in another plane where the parts of the eflet remain closer to one another. The complexity of the technique and the rarity of compisceanes trained in the process makes anything manufactured with eflets incredibly expensive.   Prior to the invention of more advanced printing techniques, eflets were used to copy books for mass distribution. One person would be able to produce ten copies of a book in the same time it would take them to write a single copy. Following the completion of a page, the corners of the pages would be cut in order to disrupt the eflet connection so that something happening to one copy of the book didn't effect all the previously connected pages. While the process is less useful for standard books, the method is still used for production of enflux literature, allowing a talented scribifist to mass produce the same effect across multiple copies that cannot be done with modern printing techniques. The technique can also be used in artistic applications of Power of Flux, but this is much rarer.   Eflets are sometimes bound into a compiary (portmanteau of "compis diary") and can be used to communicate across long distances. The number of eflets included in the compiary varies, as a larger volume leads to higher cost. Binding of the pages must be done carefully so as not to interrupt the connection. Because it is the eflets that have a connection and not the entirety of the compiary, care must be taken to ensure the pages of a compiary pair are bound in the same order for ease of use. Compiaries must be properly cared for in order to prevent bending or tearing of pages that may render them useless.
