World Habitability Classifications

Habitability classifications of individual worlds.
  • Class 1: Closest to Home-like, these require little modification for most humans to survive. In the FASTER rating, such worlds would be found in E0+ systems. Class 2: Still Home-like, these worlds may have extremes of heat, cold, or atmospheric differences which require minor assistance to survive. Desert worlds, worlds with moderately higher or lower gravity than Home, different density atmospheres or atmospheric particulate material. T1 can easily provide sufficient protection and create the various treatments that will allow gen-adapted humans to breed true by the third generation. Unless visitors are unprepared, they may function in such environs with little penalty. These worlds qualify in a E0+ system.
  • Class 3: Mostly Home-like, but requiring significant modification or equipment to exist on the world for any significant period of time. Extremes of gravity, temperature, atmospheric composition are elements needing to be addressed. Colonists will have to modified more slowly, usually 5th generation at the earliest. Visitors will have to have some sort of external adaptation or temporary medical adaption to function here, and will still not do so as well as a native, of course. Class 3 and higher worlds are typically colonized because there is something present which makes the placing of an entire populace there. Such a world would be found in a system with rating of E-1.
  • Class 4: These worlds are “hostile, not destructive (see FASTER E1) to human life. They represent the extremes that a human could survive, and would require technological aid to survive: vacuum world, high pressure atmospheres, no oxygen, etc… A world with a colony would be under a dome, and there would have to be a very good reason that a colony was actually here.
