LoE 3.1.3: A Bug's Life - Gemants

LoE 3.1: Introduction to a Juxtaposition

The Team, now divided even further, heads back for Dometown Delta. Nora, and - surprisingly - Kestra will be staying back with the Chief Elder for 5 days while Taylor and JR take the not direct route back to reinvestigate the Crystal Caldera.   They notice that the crystals in the cave are muted, but there’s still something. Further investigation shows that the crystals which are all throughout the Caldera are essentially seeds, meaning the forest will grow back if it’s not dealt with. While collecting some of the crystals their perimeter detection systems note 6 critters - 4 dog size Gemants and 2 large Gemants. They are able to defeat the dog size Gemants quickly but the two larger ones are quite brutal to fight against. Their carapace is armored and their mandibles are very strong. Things are going well when Robert somehow figures a way to shift the team temporarily to the shadow realm, just long enough to give them an edge. He uses that opportunity to attack and shut down one of the critters and then take out the other.   JR and Taylor were able to take the two larger Gemants alive (the GM compelled them, lol - they had no Fate Points left).

Epilogue

The expedition carefully packs the Gemants in cryo store bags, picks up some samples of the crystals, and as many readings as they can over the next 4 to 6 hours, as long as they can reasonably stay there before they know they have to go. They also take some readings of the temple structure finding that that there are residual dimensional energies “deep” inside, but there is no way, directly, for them to “get inside.”

Meta Notes

Curtis and Jennifer had to pull out the stops because of desperation and I really like the move where JR decided to shift to the Shadow Realm. Slowly we’re able to add powers a little more to the campaign. Each member of the team is going to have their own “power” that enables them to do some really awesome things in play. Taylor is becoming more aware of the Ethereal realm and how it ties into or may be the same as the dream, shadow, and cyber realms. This will eventually have significance in the campaign.
