Warrior Pilgrimage

A warrior pilgrimage in Rokugan , known as "musha shugyō," is a revered practice where Samurai  embark on a journey of personal and martial improvement. This tradition involves traveling the land, often alone, to seek out challenges, train under different masters, and gain a deeper understanding of Bushido and their own abilities. The pilgrimage is both a physical and spiritual endeavor, aiming to refine the warrior’s skills, honor, and character. Samurai on a warrior pilgrimage carry only the essentials: their daisho (paired swords), simple clothing, and minimal provisions. They visit dojos, temples, and remote villages, engaging in duels, participating in local conflicts, and offering their services to those in need. These encounters serve as practical training and provide opportunities to test their mettle against diverse opponents and in various situations.


The journey is also a time for introspection and spiritual growth. Pilgrims often visit sacred sites, meditate at shrines, and seek wisdom from monks and hermits. This aspect of the pilgrimage underscores the importance of inner peace and clarity in the path of the warrior, aligning with the principles of Bushido, which emphasize courage, honor, and compassion.

While on their warrior pilgrimage, a Samuria will often chose not to wear their clan colours or use their clan name, effectively being a temporary Ronin.  Their status is temporarily reduced, and they earn less glory.
