Daggerford Plot in Legacy of the Realms | World Anvil

Daggerford

14 Flamerule, The Year of Twelve Warnings (1494 DR)   Jon and Arik rode into the town of Daggerford.   It was still another hour before sunset but the two were tired and ready for a hearty meal at one of the few inns and taverns Daggerford had to offer. Jon hardly remembered the town. Now in his sixteenth winter, Jon was only three winters old when he last visited Daggerford. It was then that his family arrived in Daggerford to lay claim to their homestead, Golden Acres, which the town's council had taken ownership for over six decades.   Jon remembered his father saying that if it weren't for Jon's great-grandfather, Goldentag, having been a respected and beloved citizen of Daggerford, his parents may never have been able to reclaim the thirty-acre farmland. It was also thanks to Syndra Sylvane, a retired adventurer turned merchant who was also a prominent member of the Council of Guilds that helped ensure that Golden Acres would be returned to its rightful owners. Syndra Sylvane apparently knew and respected the history of the Skaylebanes and all the Skaylebanes had done in service to Daggerford.   After getting their two horses stabled, Jon and Arik made their way to The Lady Luck Tavern. While Jon waited at a table and enjoyed a meal, Arik went to find any information that could help them find a wizard or a sorcerer.   While Arik was gone, a bald dwarf with tattoos decorating his head approached Jon. The dwarf asked Jon if he wanted to play a game of dice. Jon agreed. The dwarf asked if Jon wanted to wager any coins. Jon offered to wager 10 sp. Unfortunately, Jon lost all of it. The dwarf asked Jon if he wanted to play again. Jon declined thinking that Tymora, the goddess of luck, wasn't blessing him with any luck at gambling.   Arik returned soon after. He said he had a lead on a female wizard seen leaving the tavern and making her way to another tavern, The Happy Cow.   On the way, the two were ambushed by six thugs who called themselves, The Rats of Daggerford. Although Arik was slightly wounded by an arrow shot by one of the thugs, the two were able to dispatch three of them. The other three fled. Jon and Arik searched the three and found plenty of coins that suggested the Rats of Daggerford were profiting well off the citizens of Daggerford.   Jon wanted to chase after the three fleeing thugs, but Arik convinced his son not to. After binding the small cut on his arm and insisting Jon not waste his healing spell on him, Arik led Jon towards The Happy Cow Tavern.   The Happy Cow was a popular tavern. It was run by two members of the Hardcheese halfling family, among them the owners, Koggin and Lily. The Happy Cow also employed over twenty members of the Hardcheese family, from cousins and uncles to other distant relatives. Most of the entertainment was even provided by members of the Hardcheese family whose dancing and singing made the tavern popular amongst locals and travelers alike.   Inside, the two were able to find a wizard.   The young female wizard they found introduced herself as Siri Bhanu, a scholar who now calls Daggerford home after leaving Waterdeep. Sir claimed to know a lot of information which most might find trivial. She encouraged Jon to ask her anything and she could most likely be able to answer it.   Jon obliged. "Siri, who founded the town of Daggerford?"   Siri considered the question quietly for a moment. "Daggerford was founded around the Year of Trials Arcane, 523 DR by Tyndal "Daggerford" although it is widely believed this was not his original last name. The town took its name from an incident involving Tyndal who, according to legend, fended off a tribe of lizardfolk with only a dagger. It also widely believed that all the Dukes of Daggerford claimed to be descended from Tyndal."   Both Jon and Arik were impressed by Siri's knowledge. Arik asked her if she would be willing to travel back to Golden Acres to help them with a certain problem involving an obelisk they found at the edge of the Misty Forest. Arik said he would be willing to pay Siri once they returned to Golden Acres.   Siri agreed to help. Jon and Arik were glad that their search for a wizard to help them didn't take too long and they would be returning back home soon.
