Mariss Argenti-Canthor

Born 1294 AK into the client house of House Argenti-Canthor. Enrolled as a neophyte student of divination in 1312 AK; achieved the grade of Adept in 1315 (thesis: “The use of Mechanical Automata in the Tethering of Divinatory Sensors”). Invited to join the Gilded Tower as a diviner thereafter, where she served for almost three further decades before dying in 1344 AK in a failed coup against Princess Beatrix Bheuren van Crassen .

Mariss Argenti-Canthor was a magician of the Gilded Tower, and member of the Everstorm Covenant. A co-conspirator of Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci, she was one of the conspiracy's recruiters, seeking out disaffected magicians in Gildenschloss who would be willing to side with the conspirators in the name of "remaking" Aldernord.
Decades earlier, she had been involved in the Empty Gyre project, having been assigned to act as personal secretary to Seneschal Redemption Auduga-Canthor. Though not directly involved in the research into the creation of Soulknives, she had an in-depth knowledge of the project's inner workings and drew great criticism for not having come forward with what she knew; she maintained that she had only been following orders, and that it had not been her place to question the ethics of project. Officially she was cleared of all charges when the project was shut down; however she was ostracized by those who knew of her involvement, and whilst she continued to work for the Gilded Tower she was consistently passed over for promotion after promotion for another three decades.
