Rbz26: Crashlanding

General Summary

As the spaceport goes into lockdown, the Crew sees their opening to make a get away. They fire up the protesting engines and pull away from the spaceport's umbilicals. They ignore the frantic calls from spaceport tower. Having just retreated into the main terminal, the legionaries turn to realize their error, but are powerless as they doors have now locked them in.   Rubezahl's crackles to life and they blast off toward the horizon. But they knew they couldn't get far. The ship still badly needed repairs. Instead of reaching for orbit, they fly away from the city centes and into the vast jungle toward the Shrine. They manage to stay on course for several hours before the engine finally gives way, and the Rubezahl enters a controlled descent into the treetop. Larger and larger leaves and branches smack against the hull, slowing the ship down before a thick network of vines and branches snags the ship, pulling her down into a tangle meters away from the ground. The thick canopy folds in after the ship, effectiverly hiding the "crash site" from view.   But the Rubezahl was whole, and the Crew -- minus Benesh -- find themselves relatively untouched, and out of immediate danger. But she would need extensive repairs before taking off again. After a quick conversation, Quinn decides they should head to the Shrine itself, both to rally their spirits and to hopefully rendezvous with Benesh.
It takes some work to leave the ship -- which was suspended some ways off the ground -- and it is quite the trek to get to the Shrine, but it was well worth it. A beautiful iridescent tree grows in the center of the clearing, the fragments of the Seedbaler shell still clearly visible through the nest of roots. As Quinn leads them through a communion with the Gardener's creations, the Crew gain a well-deserved rest in the Shrine. Some small creatures of Elysium also make their appearances in the glade, peeking in from the tree line.

As the Crew make good their escape, Benesh also makes his getaway from the spaceport. Huge crowds have gathered as the spore cloud alert grounded all traffic, and they were growing increasing irate. When the alert finally lifted, they were all to eager to be underway. Benesh manages to blend in with the crowd filing out of the terminal, and despite a few close calls with security, gets clear of the building and the Legion surveillance.
