Rbz21: Spacewalk

General Summary

Realizing something was wrong, Quinn pushed through the crowd of refugees toward the door. He extended his pistol toward the reformed pirate Hugh -- they would need all the help they could get. But the pirate simply shook his head as he waved his by now customary greeting, "No, no, I don't do that anymore."   Taken aback at the refusal, Quinn hesitated for long enough for one of the larger crewmen to grab him from behind, strongarming him back into the hydroponic room as more of the crew emerged to support their captain.   Realizing he was quickly being outnumbered, Bennesh decided that discretion is the better part of valor. He needed to make an escape, and come back for Quinn later. Still holding the captain and lieutenant at gun point, he quickly jerked his rifle up and to the left and fired a round into a red heating pipe. The pipe burst with a spray of smoke and steam, immediately filling the hallway with choking gases and driving the crew members back. Still suited up, the gases were no problem for Bennesh and he quickly turned and dashed down the hallway.   He dashed the maze of hallways in reverse, trying to remember which turns his group had made arriving here. Behind him, he could hear shouting through the suit's sound relays, and he could have sworn he felt the thump of boot strikes that were not his own. But he dared not spare a look behind him, even as he reached the ravaged mess hall where the defenders had fallen. He knew he had to reach his allies.
It took some time to untangle Reinhard from the cables, but he was none the worse for wear. But the Rubezahl had now torn free of her dock and the rotation of the Fortune seemingly caused the Rubezahl to "drift away" from the dock. Saskia knew she needed to act fast or risk losing contact with the ship. So she set off on her own EVA, vaulting off the hull and using what little of her maneuvering thrust to correct her course. She lined up her course exactly but didn't have enough time to stop her momentum. She slams hard against the hull but manages to latch a magnetic glove onto the plating before bouncing away adrift. She was back on the Rubezahl! It'd only take some work to dock the ship somewhere more secure.   Back on the hull of the Fortune, Reinhard decided to creep along the hull to the next airlock. The escape pod hatch he had been kicked through was too obvious a place for the crewmen to launch an attack. He figured that they would backtrack along the corridor and try to ambush him by coming through the next airlock. His warrior's instinct told him to wait and listen, and so he pressed up against the exterior lip of the hatch and steadied his breath.   Minutes rolled by before he was reward with the sound of the crank and hum of the airlock's inner door, followed by the muffled sound of conversation. Both of the crewmen were here then. Their voices faded as they donned their helmets and the loud rumble of the air pumps followed.   Reinhard prowled up next to the hatch and watched it open slowly. Then he made his move, hurling himself feet first to collide with the emerging head. However, the man lost his grip on the handhold and the momentum sent the two of them crashing back into the airlock. In the close confines of the airlock, already cramped for two, Reinhard found himself awkwardly sandwiched between the crewmen, and the latter managed to pin him against the inner frame. They manage to cycle the airlock and shove Reinhard onto the deck. One crewman knelt on his back to keep him pinned while the other fumbled for the plasma torch.   It was at that moment that Bennesh found his ally, rounding the corner to the docking port of the Rubezahl. Everyone was surprised by this turn of events, but Bennesh recovered first. "Unhand my crew immediately, or I will arrest you by Royal Decree of House Von Lawick!" he yelled between panting breaths, with as much authority as he could muster.   The crewmen looked up and hesitated, so Bennesh added more encouragement, "Get up slowly or I willl shoot you."   "Fine, wait." one of the crewman said, "We just want off this ship. Take us with you and we'll let him go."   Bennesh remembered the long-winded argument with the captain, and here it was playing itself out again. But even as he began the tired speech anew, Reinhard sensed the hesitation in the crewmen's stances and violently shook the crewman off his back before grabbing the man with the plasma torch and wrestling him to the ground. The other crewman recovered quickly and was about to pounce on Reinhard's back when Bennesh fired his rifle, planting a round through the man's visor and dropping him to the ground.   Reinhard managed to wrestle the other crewman into a submission hold and Bennesh "helped finish him off" by kick him in the ribs and then kicking the torch away. Not wanting to kill him in cold blood, they settle for shoving him into nearby utility closet with a stern warning not to try anything funny or he might not even get rescued later.   As they finish locking the crewman in, Saskia radios them from the Rubezahl. She was back in the ship now and Bennesh was able to talk her through the docking process to bring the ship to another escape pod hatch only a few decks away.
