Vaerbolf

The Vaerbolf is a creature similar to a wolf in appearance and behaviour, but it is much larger than the average wolf, being nearly the size of an ordinary brown bear. It was thought to be extinct and had already become the stuff of myths and legends, but recently was rediscovered when a traveller observed a pack of Vaerbolves in the north of Leas Dimeathris.

Anatomy

The Vaerbolf is built like a wolf, but much larger. It has dense grey or brown fur and yellow-brown eyes.

The Vaerbolf is a canine creature similar to a wolf but about the size of a brown bear. It grows to the age of an average 16 years.

Growth Rate & Stages

The average Vaerbolf grows around fifteen to seventeen years old. It fully grown at two, at about one year old it is the size of an average wolf.

Ecology and Habitats

The Vaerbolf prefers forested, mountainous environments and is mostly found in the colder regions in the north of Leanor and even further north. It is primarily found in and north of the Icy Mountains.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The creature hunts in packs of an average of fifteen to twenty animals, consisting of a pair of parents and their offspring. They mostly feed on animals like deer, stags and even moose, if they manage to kill one.

Biological Cycle

It grows a thicker coat of fur for the winter, which it sheds in summer.

The Vaerbolf lives in complex social structures within its pack, which usually includes a pair of parents and their offspring. The packs can consist of up to 25 animals, though the average pack size is estimated between 15 and 20.

Historically, all attempts of domestication have failed.

It has yellow-brown eyes and a quite characteristic fur markings on its face.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Vaerbolf is mostly found in the Icy Mountains and north of them but can occasionally be found as far south as the Dark Forest.
