The Ten-Day War

The Ten-Day War took place in the year 825 CE. It actually took eleven days, but it was still named the Ten-Day War. At the time, House Angeleos was the ruling family in the kingdom of Eleonis. As it happened, House Selenis had been unhappy with the rule for a while. When the King died on the 4th of May 825, his son was crowned King.

The Crown Prince had a reputation of being rather weak, so when the Lord of Selenia heard of the King's Death, he immediately sailed to Angeleor. The new King, assuming the Lord had come to swear fealty as it is customary whenever a new King is crowned, let the Lord of Selenia into the castle, where he claimed the crown, declared himself King of Eleonis and sailed back to Selenia. The now crownless Lord Angeleos, who had been injured in this revolt but was alive and furious.

It only took him two days to be well enough to travel, and he immediately took his own forces to Selenia on land. Three days later, on May 14th 825, he got to Selenia. Lord Selenis was taken completely by surprise and had to surrender the Crown back to Lord Angeleos. Lord Angeleos was crowned a second time only two weeks after his first coronation. He went on to reign for an uninterrupted twenty-two years, until he died from the Fever in 847 CE. Lord Selenis did not attempt a coup again.

The Ten-Day War is now remembered as a rather harmless military altercation with few casualties. It is seen as a historical curiosity that inspired a plethora of songs, most of which are rather humorous. Versions that ridicule that Lord of Selenia are still quite popular in Angeleor, while the selenian varieties tend to see their former Lord as the wronged hero of the story. Particularly in the army, different versions of these songs are nowadays used by soldiers from either lordship to taunt soldiers from the other, but this is usually harmless shenanigans.
