Soldier

Soldiers are the backbone of any standing army and therefore make up the most important pillar of all four leanorian kingdoms' defences. Unless they are a knight, any person serving in an army is a soldier by profession, no matter their rank or the military branch they are in. Any man of at least fifteen years of age is generally allowed to join.

Sons of noble families are normally trained to fight from a very young age and often directly join the army. Unlike them, civilian recruits have to make it through a year of basic military training. This training entails basic physical fitness exercises such as running, drills on sword, spear and other weapons as well as sparring. Recruits who make it through training can then officially join the army.

Lupear, Urtheon and Aguilear only allow men to join their armies. Eleonis is the only kingdom that allows women too, though this right was reserved for noble women over the age of sixteen up until recently. Nowadays, eleonian women of all classes are theoretically allowed to sign up, but their families often refuse to let them.

Even though noble women have been allowed in the eleonian military for quite a long time, they still often face misogyny. Particularly some of the noblemen are still disinclined to take orders from a woman and sometimes take issue with allowing women to join the military altogether. Even the first female General of the Eleonian Army could not change that.

In all four kingdoms, the army is split into three different branches, infantry, cavalry and navy with different hierarchies in each of them. Depending on the location of each kingdom the importance of each branch varies.

Lupear is mostly known for its cavalry but has only a small navy due to its landlocked geography. Eleonis on the other hand has a substantial navy and a very well-trained infantry.

In Urtheon, a cavalry and navy do exist, but are far inferior to the infantry. Aguilears army is the smallest in terms of manpower, but their navy certainly should not be underestimated.
