Othior

Othior is one of the seven main deities in the acadean pantheon. He is the god of death, who is in control of the afterlife, the earth and the riches found in it. He is usually described as a tall, thin man with pale skin, black hair, and black eyes wearing elegant bloodred or black robes. He is almost always depicted with a scythe and a pair of ravens at his side. He is sometimes also portrayed in a chariot pulled by sceletal horses. Despite these somewhat scary attributes, Othior's personality is described as just, stern and serious, but never malevolent.

Acadean mythology sees him as the male counterpart of Enia, goddess of life. The temples of Othior are places where people come to grieve, to remember their dead and to consult their ancestors. The contact to ancestors is considered a source of prophecy. The priests who keep the temples are in charge of funeral rites and everything that happens in their temple. The priests of Othior are often loners who prefer the shadows to the light and the dead to the living. They are often considered somewhat strange or even scary and are often avoided by the general public outside the templesbecause of how closely they work with the dead in their profession.

Since Othior prefers the shadows and darkness of night, the winter solstice, also known as the shortest day of the year. On that day, it is tradition to visit the temple of Othior to honour one's ancestors who went on to the afterlife. It is also the most promising day to recieve counsil and prophecies from the dead, because on this day, the border between the worlds of the living and the dead is most permeable.
