Marian

Marian is a descendant of the acadean sailor whose diary describes the destruction of Acadea and was the first to attempt to recover its ruins. When he found his ancestor's diary, he embarked on a journey to find the ruins of the city of Acadea. The first time he sailed there, all he could find was the ruin of the Lighthouse of Iocea, proof that he was in the right place, but everything else was buried. He thoroughly examined and investigated the remains of the lighthouse, carefully documenting his findings, but then sailed back home.

Back there, he started obsessing over finding Acadea. He travelled all over the lands that had once been the Empire of old Acadea to try to find sources describing or depicting the city as it was before the destruction. Only after hearing reports of a major earthquake in the region, he chose to try his luck again and sailed to Acadea once again, and this time he found things. The quake had indeed cracked open some of the layers covering the ruins, revealing parts of the city.

With the help of his source documents and a lot of people, Marian started to figure out the layout of the city and began digging for the ruins in the estimated city centre, where the imperial palace, the market district and the temples would have been. As they had the founders of Acadea, the locals warned them against digging too deep, since this would anger the dragon Daivis, who is believed to be responsible for Acadeas demise, but this didn't stop Marian from unearthing more and more of the ruins.

Many others saw him as either very brave or very stupid to set up camp in a region as dangerous as that, but he never let other people's thoughts stop him from making ground-breaking discoveries, both figuratively and literally. Today, he's an old man and has passed most of the actual digging on to his descendants, but he still wants to unearth the mysteries of the old imperial city of Acadea.
