Feast of Erios
On the day of the spring equinox, believers in the Faith of the Four Elements celebrate the end of winter and the renewal of nature after times of hardship. People come together to symbolically banish winter, invite spring and welcome better times. This is done mainly by way of gathering outside and singing songs which express just that, as well as praying for a good seedtime.
Singing is also a great way to honour Erios, the spirit of air, since the human voice would not work very well without air. In fact, a great voice, both speaking and especially singing, is considered a gift from Erios and is therefore seen as sacred. It is believed that the act of coming together and singing calls upon Erios and simultaneously encourages Aesis, the spirit of water, who is associated with winter, to back away and give spring some room.
It is, however, of vital importance not to entirely drive Aesis away, since a spring without rain makes it hard for nature to reawaken and for crops and other plants to grow. Because of this, Aesis is very politely asked to back away as the leading Element that they were in winter rather than pushed out of their position.
Most believers look forward to the Feast of Erios not only because it marks the end of winter and promises easier times, but because it is a day dedicated to gathering as a community.
During winter, people tend to stay inside if possible, staying within their families, so the celebrations are often a way of reconnecting with neighbours and friends after a time of relative separation.
Therefore, the Feast of Erios is, above all else, a social event most people are rather excited for.
