Cauldron Lizard

The Cauldron Lizard is a type of lizard that lives in the region known as the cauldron, which is otherwise pretty barren and presents a rather hostile environment. Due to its high altitude and unusually dry and sunny climate, hardly any plants grow there and most animals stay well away from it. The Cauldron Lizard, however, is perfectly adapted for that environment. It has the ability to absorb and save water with its skin and can therefore live without water for extended periods of time. Its lungs are well attuned to the thin mountain air.

It doesn't look spectacular, its about the length of a human hand with a skinny body and long tail and usually a light shade of grey or brown, which allows it to stay hidden from birds of prey, which are its main predator. Its most recognizable features are its scaly skin and spiky spine, which helps it to look like a rock even more. The males are recognizable by a blue-ish stripe along the sides of their belly, which is just black in females. It eats mostly insects and spiders, which also live in the Cauldron. It is one of the few vertebates equipped to live in its hostile environment.

Since humans don't actually live in this part of the Silver Mountains, the Cauldron Lizard rarely crosses paths with humans. It was discovered not too long ago by and eleonian explorer, who provided detailed drawings and descriptions of the animal and its habits and life cycles. The explorer was fascinated by the lizards ability to live in such an unhospitable place, which prompted him to return to the Cauldron and watch the animals several times. Since then, it hasn't been studied any further, so there is not too much more known about it yet.
