Castle Soanis

The castle of Soane is a castle that is and has for many generations been home to the House Soanis, who are the regents of Urtheon, one of the four kingdoms of Leanor, which is located north of the Silver Mountains. It was built long before the Great War, when Urtheon still was a wealthy and powerful kingdom. To this day, the castle remains one of the most impressive structures in all of Leanor.

While the city of Soane sits at the edge of a large lake known as Lake Eliath, which is surrounded by an offshoot of the Silver Mountains on the other three sides, the castle is actually built on an artificial island a good way off shore. It is connected to the city only by one long, low bridge. It is quite unique, since it is the only castle in Leanor that was built this way.

This not only makes it seem a lot more intimidating but gives the castle an advantage in its defense, because the castle can only be attacked on the water or by using the bridge, both of which are not ideal. Attackers on the lake would, on most days, be visible for hours, allowing for preparation of any defense necessary. If anyone chose to use the bridge, there would be only a few soldiers reaching the gates at a time, which would make it very easy for the defenders to take their opponent down little by little.

Unfortunately, it is not the most pleasant place to live. Being situated within a lake the size of Eliath, the castle is frequently subjected to intense weather influence, which results in water damage. After the Great War, when Urtheon became much less wealthy, House Soanis could no longer afford to have the damage repaired, so nowadays, the castle is, regrettably, in desperate need of restoration.

In recent years, it has become the hideout and base of operations of Iohan, while he was planning his revenge on Eleonis with Queen Thearida Soanis of Urtheon.
