Serulia

Serulia is the oldest nation in Layeil, and is comprised of the Northlands, mainly the northern wastes. It is ruled by Daniel Mitoh “The Lich King”, from the “Black Keep”, a massive fortress built around a Dragon Tower. It is believed King Mitoh has even unlocked said tower. Serulia was the location where the final battle of the “War of the Fallen King” took place. King Mitoh failed to take up arms against the Fallen King, but neither did swear allegiance. Some believe King Mitoh feared the Fallen King, others believe he had sworn a secret alliance to the Fallen King, while others yet believe he was biding his time to strike. The only consensus is King Mitoh allowed the Fallen King to usurp much of his kingdom. After the war had ended, and the Fallen King was slain, King Mitoh demanded all invaders vacate his lands or he would destroy them. Ice storms and the undead ensured his demand was met. Many of the fallen were left behind, and later scout parties sent to retrieve the dead only joined them. King Mitoh allows any willing to serve him to join his kingdom, but each must pass a test of loyalty. Nobody outside of Serulia knows what it consists of and anybody who has passed the test is magically bound not to speak of it. Due to the extreme cold weather conditions and lack of natural resources very few settlements exist in Serulia, and fewer yet wish to live there lest they desire to practice forbidden arts. Those who do populate Serulia are those who desire power through means of practicing forbidden magic, or those fleeing the Grand Republic or the Alliance, those born in Serulia without the means to escape, and those traded or sold as slaves. Most citizens receive a birthmark-like mark upon their bodies called the Mark of the Lich King. The other races which occupy Serulia include Cyclopeans, Trolls, Gobs, and Abominations. Serulia is considered a frozen hell.
