Genres

Primental

A chaotic free jazz genre associated with the eventual chaos. Unpopular with the scholars who want to tame the elements but popular in by non human northern races as orcs, half orcs and sapphire Sulites. It was developed by the orcs and was victory music after battles, percussion being played on the shields of enemies with their bones.

Safirian Primental

Much like the original orcen Priemental but in 10-TET instead of 12-TET. It features less percussion on metal discs (shield or cymbals) and more classical drums and chimes.

Brendon

Originating from Brend is one of the most popular genres. Brendon is a music style based on the idea that each note is important. In Brendan music each note is distinct and has an important role in the music. Always played in 4/4 in a Ionian scale with only one main instrument part accompanied by a few base notes.

Gimlen

Gimlen is the most common dwarfen music and it is named after the dwarfen word for star (Giml). It is played on Star instruments.

Classical Gimlen

Modern Gimlen

Also known as Dwarfen Dance Music

Safirian

Safirian music (by Sapphire Sulits) differs from most music in Lavera in that it is not written in 12-TET but instead in 10-TET.

War Druming

War Druming is a a genre evolved from the Sapphire Sulit marsh drums. War Drumming generally features three to ten drummers on different sizes and types of drums, from big 2 meter drums to small hand drums, and one non drummer. The genre is mostly based around drum rhythms and melodies created from the different types of drums but most War Drumming pieces also include one or two small melodies played by another instrument. Koto is sometimes played to create background chords to the music while tin flute or shamisen is used for easily remembered melodies.

Meditational Safirian

The meditational Safirian music is an atmospheric sub-genre of Safirian music played in 5-TET, a sub group of 10-TIT where just each other now is used. It is often played on koto and sometimes accompanied by wind chimes, blowing in the wind, giving random patterns to the music, or high register tin flutes.

Treble

Melodic Treble

Controversial music style featuring fast plucked melodies in melodic minor on string intruments. The melodies are generally slow and the fast plucking gives rise to a trebbling effect. It is most popular in the Holy Lands where it is a contrculture to the faith of Saviour , featuring lyrics of pain and sadness, and talks about that menra can't stop the negative.

High Treble

The original Treble music made in the mountains of the Topaz Sulits. Often played in the locrian on duetts of the same plucked intrument with a flute accompanying them.

Storm

The most hard core genre, played on horn instruemnts by the power of air magic. Percussion by earth magic. Performed in the north west.

Theatrical Storm

A sub genre of storm featuring magic as Thaumaturgy to change the singers voice or illusionary magic to create visual spectales.

Flamian

Fire pipe

Dripplet Drum

This is a very interesting dwarfen instrument. Placed in a cave is a big drum, right beneath a stalactite. Through magic, fine engineering or carving the level of dampness in the ceiling around the stalactite is controlled to extreme precision so that each drop drops with a certain intervall. Thytmically the drops fall on the bid drum and creates a sound much louder than expected.

Aon

A spacy instrument. It's strong but the vibration comes from the magic of air mages
Enchanted / active is imbued with air magic making it possible for anyone to play
Passive is not enchanted and requires an air mage to play

Star

Star intrument get their name from the Star Crystal from which they are made. The reason it is called star crystal is that within the crystal small particles of diamon dust are trapped, giving the illusion of a stary sky being trapped within it when ligh is shone upon it.

Star Organ

Base Star

The Base Star is an big bowl made out of star crystal. Dragging your finger along its edge while it is filled with water creates a low humming sound with high overtones. In classical dwarfen music it is used as a long neverending base to build other melodies upon. In modern times it has become common to create rhytmic base tones generally accompanied with heavy percussion.

Star Board

A star board is made of a high number of star crystal tubes, each with a different amount of water in it. The user plays the instruemnt by making circle motins with his wet fingers against the top of the tubes.

Keyboard

Aocord

Like a piano but each tangent is enchanted to blow on the string to give the effect of the Aon instrument.

Dragon Piano

More reverb, made of dragon bone and intestines Very rare and expensive

Dragon Organ

Made from the hollow bones of dragons. They are either enchanted with air magic.

Kalimba

These instruments originate from the orcish culture as an instruments of shamans. It is made of a wooden box with tines of reed. The reed is from a larger version of the common reed, called Troll Reed, which is cut up and placed in a strong acid. The acid thins the reed and make them flexible. With the long reed parts thinner and flixible they are placed on top of each other in many layers, each time compressed, until their is about 10 to 15 layers of reed. After that the pieces are placed in a dark liquid prepared by the shaman. After a week the reed is removed, now hardened. The last thing to do is to saw and sand paper their edges to the right size.   Western Kalimba
These kalimbas are only ones in the elven lands but still quite rare. Instead of reed they have tines of hard wood.   Eastern Kalimba
These kalimbas are only ones in the human lands but still quite rare. Instead of reed they have tines of metal.
