Ruvun, Curiosity Character in Launtrel | World Anvil

Ruvun, Curiosity (Ruh-voo-nn)

OVERVIEW

Ruvun is Rylos' leading Arch-Fey, whom represents the virtue of Curiosity. Novan chose him to represent this aspect of Balance because of his obsessive nature to be curious about everything and his never ending experiments to "see what happens". Ruvun welcomes visitors not because he is kind and wishes to be hospitable, but because he wishes to learn about their entire being and to see how he can twist it to new and unimaginable ways. He often gives tests to visitors or makes seemingly impossible deals to try to test the limits of those who approach him. Because of this, he is seen as dangerous and largely avoided by many except the bravest or the most desperate. He is almost exclusively hands off with the citizens of his region, aside when he releases his newest experiment upon them.

DESCRIPTION

Ruvun chose the most disgusting, revolting, and fear-invoking form he could think of because he was curious about people's reactions to him. When the shock of his form wears off after survivors detail him so much that those visiting know what to expect, he changes it to the next form he thinks will shock and revolt. Currently, his form is newly revealed. He appears to be a ball of tentacles, constantly wiggling and oozing a thick, slimy, and repugnant slime that slicks the floor around him. The smell has notes of rot, decay, and somehow, illness. Brown, smoother tentacles create a shell-like body where blue and octopus like tentacles spill out. These tentacles have a cream under base with constantly sucking suckers that make a squelching sound at a dizzying rate. They are constantly moving, wriggling, grabbing... Never seemingly finding their targets they have set in their minds. A single glowing red reptile eye is nestled into the dark abyss that seems to be his body.

He has no noticeable mouth, but his voice is creepy and blood chilling. It floats into the air and wraps around the people or persons standing in front of him. It has a deep tone, with a feel of darkness and evilness to it. This is carefully manufactured, and not truly a reflection of his personality. The same as his appearance, his voice was created to illicit response.

PERSONALITY

Mischievous and tricky, Ruvun loves pushing the boundaries of the person's psyche to see the reactions of those he is presenting too. Everything that drives him is curiosity of everything around him, but leans towards the side of creating monstrosities and the weirdest things to be found. Deep in his lair is a zoo of creatures of his creation - bits and pieces of different animals mashed together and forced to reborn into the newly created body. His curiosity has driven him to create the perfect 'creatures' that can function like a normal, living animal. He views these monsters as his children and either keeps them close and protected in his lair or sends them out into Rylos to wreck torment as he watches.
Ruvun is easily drawn into an odd or abnormal story and riddles. It easily entraps him in a whirlpool of questions, philosophy, and needing to see the outcome. If he can't figure out the outcome, he becomes enraged and violent. The thought that his curiosity can't be satisfied throws him into a dangerous frenzy. This will last until an even more interesting thing catches his attention and calms him down.
