Kurethos, Pride Character in Launtrel | World Anvil

Kurethos, Pride (Kure-thos)

OVERVIEW

Kurethos is Xytharth's Arch-Fey whom represents the virtue of Pride. This virtue is only fitting as the caretaker of dragons. He was chosen to create a region to support the realm's dragons and is in charge of deciding which ones may leave the realm of Launtrel and explore the outside world. This means that he is, in fact, the only other keyholder to the realm other than Novan herself. He takes this job very seriously and has yet to faulter on his charge. He also cares deeply for the dragons of his realm and is only impressed by the most prideful dwarfs or others that come across him. Of course, he does have a soft spot for Dragonborne, but those who do not live up to his expectations will lose his respect quickly.

DESCRIPTION

At an overwhelming height of over thirteen feet, Kurethos embodies every aspect of the dragons he protects. Formed to look like and resemble a copper dragon, he can also shapeshift into one as needed. His tall stature portrays the strength and pride he carries with broad shoulders and chests, large biceps and thighs, and an intimidating dragon head with glowing yellow eyes. Large spikes come up his shoulder blades and arch towards his head that has its own set of large and beautifully carved horns. His hands, however, do appear to be wearing glaives even though they are not wearing any armor. In fact, his own skin is his armor with appearing to be, and feeling as such, solid metal. His voice is loud and booming, commanding the attention and respect for all that sit in front of him. He is unafraid to use that to his advantage to gain control of any situation.

When he is feeling threatened enough to turn into his dragon form, he can easily turn into the largest copper dragon in the entire region. Because of the sheer size, he does not often use it.

PERSONALITY

Kurethos is very big on respect and pride in both yourself and your work. Disrespect towards him is the fastest way to inflict unimaginable pain on yourself. To him, pride and respect go hand-in-hand, but his view on respect is heavily skewed. Those who wish to interact with him must basically grovel at his feet or else be deemed respectful. He is definitely one of the more temperamental Arch-Fey and can be tricky to deal with.

As the Arch-Fey of dragons, he takes his role as their protector and mentor very seriously. He cares deeply for all of the dragons he helps raise and train. The death of one of them is felt deeply in his entire soul, especially if he has to cull one for disrespecting his rules for them to live. The dwarves that love the region for the rich mining are kept under careful watch, but most have come to a mutual understanding with him. When a dragon is ready to move on from Launtrel, he will grant them access to leave the realm forever. Whenever this happens, he will hold a large and happy ceremony to send the dragon he helped raise off right. This is possibly the only time he is seen looking joyful.
