The Library of Sipedeh
The scholars and librarians who tend to the Library of Sipedeh welcome all who wish to share their knowledge or partake in its splendor. The Scholars of Sipedeh travel across the lands of Elis compiling knowledge on their subject of choice in hopes of completing their dissertation for submission to the halls of the Library.
Mythology & Lore
The knowledge Goddess Sipedeh is represented by a legless woman in a long billowing dress adorned with a cloth covering her face. She desires her followers to compile knowledge together to form her great library. Each book, journal, missive, and note to enter the sanctum of the Library of Sipedeh is said to be found again in her astral archive.
The Scholars of Sipedeh are taught that the only method of gaining admittance to the final archive in the afterlife is to devote their lives to completing their scholarly dissertation, referred to as a "Key". The contents of a Key can be written about any kind of subject, but to be genuinely considered a Key to Sipedeh's archive it must expand upon what is already known on that subject. A scholar must find some new discovery or produce a novel observation of some natural or manmade occurrence.
When a dissertation is submitted to be judged as a valid Key, the scholar will turn the compilation to a council of Librarians who are experts in the field related to the dissertation's subject. The selected Librarians will take the proposed Key and sequester themselves to a private room within the library's grounds where they will debate the merits of the paper. If the council unanimously votes to grant the dissertation the status of Key, the author of the Key will be promoted to a Librarian and will become part of the pool for future councils; however, if the dissertation fails to reach the esteemed status the scholar will be rejected and sent back out into the world to resume their research.
