Sticks Tradition / Ritual in Lanternal | World Anvil

Sticks

Perhaps it is childish, or maybe simply incomprehensible. The game of 'Sticks' naturally concerns sticks and their inherent sizes and shapes. To the uninitiated the business of sticks may seem strange, yet enjoyable in its own way.

History

On the first day of Aprakas in 812 ER, Chrysanthemum Ostander first met the boistrous and capricious Hulder, Corra. The two quickly grew to fast friends and soon Corra introduced Chrysanthemum to the game of Sticks. Chrysanthemum would spread the game like apocrypha to all who could listen, but to little who could understand.

Execution

The secret behind the game of sticks is that it can only be truly understood by beings of Fey or Celestial ancestry. Corra, being a fey creature herself, was able to teach Chrysanthemum the rules of the game which was one of a few early signs that the girl was of non-human ancestry (see Changeling). Of those known to understand 'Sticks' there are the following races: Changelings(by extension, Hags ), Elves, Half-Dragons (by extension, Dragons, Hulder, and celestially touch spirits such as Giridharan Kalravani.   Sticks can be played among just two people or as part of a group. To start the game each player will search the surrounding area for any twigs, small branches, or simple sticks and prepare them to present to the group. As a group the participants will take turns presenting their sticks one at time. Those among the above list of beings will be able to see the supernatural beauty and intricacies of each piece and will judge who has the most impressive stick. 'Sticks' can be played as a single round or as an elimination style tournament of twigs.
"And then you put down your stick like this" Chrysanthemum enthusiastically explained to the Grand Elder. "I see. How interesting... like so?" the Elder replied, placing his own stick on the floor between them. "See! You get it!" Chrysanthemum beamed broader than she had in weeks.
