Lacrello

The Lacrello is a mythical beast of Nissean folklore. Myth dictates that the beast stalked the lands that are now present-day Missighola. It is said the first acolyte of Sipedeh once outsmarted the Lacrello and felled the beast, and on that spot founded the Library of Sipedeh.   The imagery of the Lacrello is ubiquitous within the Library of Sipedeh. Its likeness can be found on the temple’s architecture, walls, and doors, serving as a constant reminder of the institution's purpose. It is often depicted on scrolls, parchments, and books related to knowledge and scholarly pursuits. In ceremonies and rituals, the figure of Lacrello is invoked to invoke blessings from the goddess Sipedeh and seek protection for the precious knowledge housed within the Library.   The image of the Lacrello is also used in the Library's seals and emblems, ensuring the authenticity of official documents and texts. Scholars may even wear amulets or jewelry bearing Lacrello's image as a symbol of their commitment to pursuing knowledge and wisdom.

Anatomy of a Beast

Body of a Drake

The torso of the Lacrello resembles that of a drake, a fierce creature akin to a dragon but often smaller in size. Its body is muscular and well-proportioned, covered in scales of varying colors, ranging from earthy greens and blues to fiery reds and golds.   From the drake's body are eight powerful, flexible legs. These legs gave the Lacrello unparalleled agility and speed, allowing it to move swiftly through the hills and lakes. Each leg ends in sharp claws that aid in climbing, grasping, and combat.

Two Heads

The Lacrello possesses two distinct heads, each representing essential facets of wisdom and power.

The Owl Head

One head resembles that of an owl, with large, expressive eyes. These eyes glow with an ethereal luminescence, allowing Lacrello to see clearly even in the darkest nights. Its exceptional vision grants it insight into hidden knowledge and enables it to perceive truths beyond the ordinary senses. The owl head signifies Lacrello's connection to wisdom, foresight, and keen perception.

The Bull Head

The second head resembles that of a mighty bull, exuding strength and determination. With its massive horns curving outward, the bull head symbolizes the Lacrello's connection to power, courage, and the unwavering defense of knowledge.

Split Tail

The Lacrello's tail is long and powerful, forking into two. One part of the split tail represents the past, and the other part represents the future. Together, the split tail embodies the duality of knowledge—honoring the past while embracing the boundless potential of the future.
