Dwarves
Short, stocky but powerfully built, dwarves are famous for their lush an often long beards, including among many females, and for their architecture, stone and metal craftsmanship.
They are not the most industrious of races, as being long lived and also conservative, don’t help them to innovate. But these traits do lend fortitude, stability and the marriage between splendor and quality to everything they touch.
It’s no accident that the saying “set in stone” to describe a done deal or something bound to happen reminds us of this sturdy folk. Dwarves, like their construction, are known for being very traditional and unmoving. So much that sages that studied the dwarven people in depth speak that their connection to rocks and minerals is very concrete. As dwarves get more experienced and old, they develop a body and soul link with the deep and their stones through some combination of intuition, trained toughness and contemplative wisdom.
Dwarven cultures consistently value their elders, ancestries and clan life, complete with expectations of solidarity and duties from every individual. Honor is a major virtue, which is strongly followed and spoken of in their cultures. Affiliations and decisions tend to be stablished as family/clan issues rather than personal ones. And that works in both directions: as hard as it is to earn, a friendship with dwarves usually means it’s a friendship with his immediate family, if not with the clan as a whole. It easily extends to generations of less long lived races and it’s also expected to be acknowledged and corresponded by the descendants of whom earned it directly.
Several of the world’s wonders and great structures of ancient ruins have at least a touch of dwarven masonry. This tells clearly how much their unique labor and construction knowledge are valuable. There are tales that older and accomplished dwarves can hear the stones as if it were a living thing and even merge seemlessly with it.
