University of Magic - Recovery wards
Purpose / Function
The original school of magic was a single shack outside a small town where one practitioner, Adele Angevin, sought to teach those like her with innate magic that often expressed itself in less than desirable ways. Though initially met with resistance to the idea Adele persisted and eventually gained traction. Her little school grew into the massive presence we are familiar with today. The modern universities still carry her original ideal; to help anyone with no regard to cost. As such all universities established have at least a rudimentary medical wing typically referred to as the recovery wards. Even the smallest of universities can be counted on to help even if you've nothing to pay with. Donations are accepted but not required.
Despite both organizations being dedicated to magic the university and the church of magic are not affiliated. Please only seek services at an accredited university and be wary of those claiming affiliation without proof.
Architecture
The University Itself
Newly constructed universities will attempt to match the local architecture of the area where they are built. Older universities are often a collection of local aesthetics and whatever they had on hand to build out of at the time.
One thing all universities have in common however will be at least one focusing tower, the outside decoration of the tower doesn't matter only that it is perfectly round, at least fifteen feet tall and atop it will be a large askaemite crystal, usually raw but sometimes if all a university can obtain is cut crystal that will do. Inside the tower is forbidden to anyone who is not an accredited graduate of the university, but it's rumored that the inside is where the true power lies in ancient runes and sigils carved into the walls.
Inside the Recovery Wards
The size of the university will dictate the size of the recovery ward. Universities will treat both human and critter patients though given the nature of Veralus the focus is more often on critter treatment over human. Since these are often more of the magical healing variety recovery wards are set up as semi-private comfortable rooms with the most common critters in mind. Most will have a few specialty or generic rooms to accommodate the less common patient types/species.
History
The 'original' and currently largest university of magic was established in Mestanic City year 215 by Adele Angevin nearly thirty years after her first little shack. By the time the university was being established Adele had a vast variety of support and, of course, opposition. Despite this she remained optimistic and that very first University also included a no cost clinic. The first of many to come.
