Falkenburg - the Mountaintop City

Demographics

Falkenburg's main heritages are Humans, Dwarves, and Karhu, although the city has a sizeable Salimar merchant population.  Outside the walls in the Stone March district is a small Elf population.  While other Heritages come and go to Falkenburg, Lizardfolk dislike the cold and Goblins aren't particularly welcomed.

Government

Falkenburg is officially governed by the king, but in truth is run by a lesser scion of the royal house in collaboration with the leaders of the various guilds.  The city is patrolled by members of the royal household guard.

Defences

The main city is surrounded by thick walls with towers at regular intervals.

Districts

Falkenburg has several districts, both inside and outside the city walls.  They are:
  • Adler Road - outside the northern gate, on the road that leads to the lowlands and then to Carador.
  • Falkenburg Square - largest of most populous of the districts, residential and commercial.  This was the old town, with its main square used for official events.
  • Falkenschloss - the citadel of the king and his council inside triple walls, but also the mansions of nobility outside the citadel's gate.  Also the muster ground for the army.
  • Snowside - outside the western gate, on the road that leads up into the mountains.
  • Stone March - outside the eastern gate, leads down to the coastal road that goes to the dinosaur domains and the road into Veltingard.
  • Sturmgeier - commercial and industrial, warehouses and workshops, tanneries and metalworkers of all kinds.

History

Falkenburg was founded by Brenton the Black during his conquest of the continent.  He installed his comrade in arms the dwarf Snorri Vindskang.  Snorri became the first Lord Governor of the province of Avernin.  As the largest settlement in the province, it became the provincial capital and increased in size and prosperity.   After Erynland was founded, Falkenburg continued as the national capital city.
