Crucibles

For centuries, the ancient Grand Guilds were trying to reverse engineer Magifactories in order to built their own ones instead of bying them from Varnian Mechanics. They never succeeded, but their efforts did lead to the development of the Crucible.
Crucibles are similar to magifactories in that their purpose is to mass produce mechana. However, unlike a magifactory that can be used to built any kind of mechana as long as it has the proper instructions or a prototype to copy from, each crucible is explicitly designed to create a specific piece of mechana. For instance, you can have a crucible that builds +1 longswords and only +1 longswords.
It is not clear which was the Grand Guild that first developed this technology, but by the time of the War of the Varn, all Grand Guilds had been building and using their crucibles extensively.
