Glasseye Condition in Land of the Ancients | World Anvil

Glasseye

Stop eating sand! When will you understand? Do you need a spanking to get it into your head?!
— angry mother

Children young of age can in some circumstances suffer from a condition known as "glasseye". It is so called because it causes the eyeballs to go as stiff as glass, which in turn causes poor vision and potentially blindness.

The first written notion of the existence of this condition comes from a physician near Jobay. They described that it started appearing after a blood moon, particularly in children.

It took a long while to figure out what was going on. In the end it turned out that eating the sand from the beach would cause the condition. Because small children would inevitably eat more sand than their parents, they were the ones most likely to be afflicted.

Since then a long time has passed and "don't eat sand" has passed down through generations as something incredibly important to enforce. However, since the initial incident, no further studies have been made on the matter and it is currently unclear if eating sand, be it from Jobay or from any other place, still causes glasseye.

Understandably no one is eager to try it out.
