Brummbär
The year is 4300u and the higher-ups at GMS have an idea, what if we can make a self sustainable asteroid mining ship using some of our new technology. With that, Brummbär was born, a colonial mining ship designed to efficiently mine asteroids in deep space. A military NHP was reprogrammed to maintain the ships and find optimal asteroids to mine. Meanwhile an experimental gravity well was fitted to the station. Designed to pull in asteroids and systematically separate them on the molecular level.
Construction was completed in 4513u as the parts were shipped to the outer galaxy. Final assembly and power up was completed in 4516u marking the beginning of Brammbär’s life. Through multiple generations of colony workers, Brummbär shipped materials used in GMS production. Thousands of asteroids were dismantled and a whole culture grew within the ship. Culminating in it becoming a popular fly-by or stop for ships heading into deep space. However, all good things eventually come to an end.
Despite Brummbär being a success, the difficulty setting it up and further advancement in technology lead to it becoming inefficient for GMS means. Eventually decommissioned in 4632u Brummbär was left to float in the vacuum of space. Many colony workers refused to leave their lifelong home and continued to live on the station, fending off those who came to scrap it for parts.
Slowly as time moved on remnants of ships, space stations, and asteroids began to collect around the latent energy of the gravity wells. The mass of the ship progressively increased and so too did interest in it. Other generational vessels and space stations permanently docked with Brummbär growing its population.
In 4816u on the tercentennial anniversary of the ship, Brummbär became a recognized colony. Now having a population of several million, Brummbär is the center of outer rim life. Most explorations and spacecraft stop at the city for goods and to pick up travelers. A true metropolis was born from the husk of a GMS failure.
Due to its pristine location and popularity many organizations feud for control of the city. IPS-N wants to add it to their fleet of stations to spread further into deep space. Harrison Armory sees it as a bastion of SecComms tech and the first step into the greater beyond. SSC sees a city built from nothing, the peak of human survivability. Horus sees an opportunity to finally create its own city state. As many more factions lay the groundwork for their plans to take over, Union begins the Lancer Initiative to create some form of governance over all the corpo states.
Brummbär Logs
The main location of the setting, Brummbär is an old GMS mining ship. Over decades people have settled on the ship and constructed a sustainable city that revolves around its deep space orbit.
The city is broken up into four main groups:
Olympus - separate ring with its own rotation and gravitational pull - where the ultra wealthy live - orange
Arx - towers going to the ring. Connected through many ports and bridges, gravity decreases with height - where the wealthy live - red
Ogygia- main city, dense metropolis built atop the main body of the mining ship - where most people live - pink
Hypogeum - under city, built into the crews corridors and into the hull of the ship, gravity reversed from ogygia (still pulls to center of ship) - where those who want to be forgotten go - purple
