Potion of Motion

Mitwood's is a wonderful little apothecary and potion dispensiary. Run by the talented Valti Mitwood, the shop has been going strong for decades.

Despite their blindness, they make everything in their shop by scent and touch, measuring it from years of experience with their other senses. Not everyone has to see what they're doing. The shop is filled with jars and bottles, all neatly placed with small, raised markings on the labels to help Valti find the right ones, and there isn't a speck of dust to be found. They're meticulous with their cleanliness, careful that there's never any contamination in their potions. The shop smells sterile, but it's not wholly unpleasant.

Acquisition:

Upon entering, Valti can be found with their back to the door, shoulders hunched as they work on something at the back counter. They hold up a finger to wait a moment and work silently for a minute more before they find a stopping point and can turn around.

"I'm sorry. I had to finish neutralizing that or it would have gassed us...I would hate for us to wind up in uncontrollable giggle fits!" They lean on the front counter and smile. "Now, how can I help you?"

Potions and components are purchased quickly and easily, with Valti gracefully moving around the room to collect everything you need from the shelves. They don't hesitate with the order; with everything meticulously organized, there's little room to doubt where everything is. It's only when they come back to the main counter that they hesitate, smile faltering.

"I do have a question. Down the road near the third statue leading up to the main entrance, at the beginning of the trek up here, there's a bed of Quick Flowers. The man I normally have collect my ingredients went to fetch some yesterday and didn't come back. It's unlike him; he gets the job done quick and right, always on time...did you perhaps see a cersher picking flowers on your way in?"

The party can make rolls to remember if they saw him, or the GM can state that there was no one there when they passed by without needing to roll.

"If you have the time, could you collect some of those flowers for me and see if he's nearby? I'll pay you for the help."

Quick Flowers:

Returning to that lit statue reveals plenty of flowers, some lying on the ground, but no signs of the cersher sent to pick them. There are, however, drag marks nearby, and the party can follow them into the woods.

Note: If the players disturb the flowers and pick them now, they'll be met with several Blooming Wraiths. They cannot be reasoned with and will attack immediately. The number of wraiths present is up to the GM. This is a hint as to what happened to the cersher.

Following the trail left behind by the dragged body, they find themselves in a clearing with more Quick Flowers. In the center is the cersher man, surrounded by wraiths. He's still, and it's unknown if he's still alive.

Resolution:

  • The party can try to approach, but it'll stir up more wraiths. There will be six total. After they're dealt with, the party can then pick the flowers.
  • The cersher is not dead but he is severely wounded. Taking him back to Valti, they can heal his wounds if the party is unable to do so. He'll tell the party that this is new, and the wraiths have never been there when he went to collect supplies before.

Rewards:

  • Valti will pay the party for the flowers and for rescuing the man, along with giving them potions to increase their movement speed (if applicable).
  • The party can go through the wraiths' things for resources and ghost weapons.
This is meant for a mid-level party.
