Military action
The capture of Abbot II's messenger boat by a Saltkrigere surveying ship.
The ship that Abbot II had sent arrived quickly to Jurejun without the storms blocking the way. Unfortunately, they were seen by a Saltkrigere surveying ship, which had been hunting down any stragglers of the Jurejun families. As the Saltkrigere were informed about Abbot II's plans to cross the sea, they were shocked that anyone was returning. They figured Kanel would take great interest in retrieving survivors, so they killed half of the crew while the rest surrendered to capture. They were brought to Kanel, who would question them about what they had found. The only information they gave up willingly was that they had started their way towards proving the prophecy correct, as the storms of the Orphi gap cleared due to their actions. Realizing they would not convince Kanel, they refused to share more. Wanting to know more about this land they found, Kanel ordered them to be tortured and questioned until they shared everything they knew. Their ship was scavenged and the evidence of the Tara-Jhen was collected. There were pronunciation ciphers, information about surviving the marsh, and one of the crew members' journals. They learned as much as they could before deciding they would try their hand at crossing the Orphi Gap themselves, making sure they sailed with a trajectory that would put distance between themselves and the Strand-Bloods. They sailed north northwest. Even though Kanel's priests claimed that it would be too far of a stretch, likely never reaching the continent at all, Kanel didn't want to run into any potential reptilian allies of the Strand-Bloods.
