Military: War
The cataclysmic war between Udundst and Renad (primarily Kala)
This war was a tragedy for all involved. Its direct effects would be felt for at least 80 years after it had finished and large chunks of the population of Belenad died. This conflict began when the Denpa Powlwe overthrew the Yunbad Theocratic Conduit, and Gomma outlawed slave trade. A singular unexpected offensive was able to destroy or otherwise push Kalan mining forces from their mountains. The council of Kala reached out to see what had happened, but were met with silence from the Yunbad. As soon as word came that the YTC had been overthrown, Nil Hra took executive power and declared war on Udundst. The sudden thrust into wartime caused the word to spread quickly amongst Yunbad slaves in Renad, as well. The J'barri had been going through years of peacetime and traditionalists thought this was causing them to lose touch with their core identity as conquerors. The Rojans and people of Brille chose to remain out of this war, since they had little or no stakes in Udundst. This proved difficult when the teachings of Gomma spread to slaves of all three cities. The slaves shared similar ideas to Gomma, seeing as most of them were victims of the YTC's corruption. This caused mass slave revolts in every city. If it weren't for these revolts, the war may have been much easier for the J'barri. In the end, all Yunbad slaves were killed, whether they took part or not. The revolt is viewed differently by the three cities, but Brille and Roja mostly blame Kala rather than the slaves themselves. Most of the fighting happened in Udundst. The Yunbad needed the home advantage to win. 10 separate offensives were made by the J'barri, with the first 9 ending with retreat. When Roja had executed all of their slaves, Can-en knew that the conflict had to end, no matter who won. If the Yunbad won, Gomma wouldn't stop his war with the defeat of Kala. Seeing this, he allowed greater communion with Riiji, who gave them the fire magics. Kalans were also given access to Renad-Pai for guidance. In the end, Riiji spoke directly to Nil Hra and told her of a small window of time that would result in a successful, 10th offensive. At this time, Nil Hra gained extra patriots from Roja who wished to end the war. The largest frontal assault in the nation's history was formed at the foot of the Udundst mountains. Small portions of soldiers were sent climbing the mountains as a distraction while Nil Hra led a massive force through the old mining caverns. The climbers were easy pickings, but the distraction worked. Near the mountain tops, a massive slaughter ensued against the Yunbad. Records from across the continent were recorded at the time of this assault. Gomma hid within his temple during the slaughter and prayed for revelations from Denpa. Long-dead Yunbad refugees who heard the communion reported what they heard. Denpa spoke to Gomma, but in a "different voice than had been heard for years." He asserted that he had never told the Yunbad to go to Hawumad and scorned them for trying to manipulate the natural world. His natural world. Similar reports come from Rojan priests while the sun was at the same height. Riiji spoke to Can-en and his informants. She claimed to have never told them to seek magics from Renad-Pai. She even went so far as to say that she did not know who J'bar was, much less had she asked him to be their guide to Renad-Pai. These realizations were too late. Udundst was already blazing and half of the offensive had been killed. Nil Hra was still fighting in the mountains. Realizing the war had been contrived, a setup, Gomma gathered his priests, acolytes, and disciples. He began meditating with any who refused to run. They hummed a song of old tradition and mixed in words of long-told rituals. They raised their arms, calling on Denpa, Basa, Baru, and Pinya for forgiveness and purification. They received their forgiveness, but took responsibility for their actions and resolved it themselves by causing the "Mountain Fold."
