Military: War
The war between the Shellbay Paladins and the Shuckers over the territory of the Corkend Peninsula.
With so much death over the last few decades, the Shellbay had fully prioritized the lives of its military over its civilians, and the Saltkrigere were at the top of that hierarchy. As a group called the "Shuckers" was rising in power and Shellbay learned that people outside of the main city were losing faith in the gods, they decided that a grand display of Godlike judgement would need to be brought to the barbaric raiders. The Saltkrigere Paladins, a holy order of warriors, were formed to fight against these raiders. They were deployed first against the nearest village, which had been taken by the shuckers. The raiders were 50 strong, largely consisting of berserker units. The legends say that five paladins were sent to reclaim the territory, and they walked away victorious. This spurred hatred in the surrounding Shucker territories, leading to an all out war between the two groups. While the Saltkrigere did get involved to some extent, it was almost entirely the paladins that were recorded as fighting the battles. As they carved a path of holy retribution through the Corkend Coast, they erected temples to Bailum and Ornjack, which served to empower those that they saved. Unlike the Eldur Knights, the paladins sought to leave some survivors in the raiders they fought, making examples out of them. These examples would prove to be an optimistic light for the people in the region, as the "examples" were left alive to redeem themselves in the eyes of Bailum by serving the church. The war itself was brutal and long, but nothing compared to their eventual war with the Snowhammers. In their crusade, Shellbay managed to reestablish communication with Fjordstrond, which they found in heavy disrepair at the end of their journey. The single trade road between the two cities was able to be protected as time went on, but not without incident. The Paladins would then set their sights on the holy guidance of Vestergil, given they largely used storm magics in their ventures.
