Pride Leader

The Pride leaders of Brille, Kala, and Roja are religiously selected. Hereditary connection to prior leaders is not required, but it is common. The first Pride Leaders were selected by their patron gods. After the events of the Mountain Fold, however, the J'barri have been hesitant to take orders and words from their gods due to imposter concerns.   In the modern age, councils select the Pride Leader, often relatives of the old one, without so much as a formal list. At the death of a Pride Leader, every council member gives their recommendation based on people they know (be it a business owner, a military general, a relative, etc.) and they debate the succession until one member is selected. Should the selectee want to be ruler they undergo a religious ritual, symbolic of their Patron God, to be recognized by their deity.   Brille, in the modern age, is the exception. Given its isolated nature, its culture has been preserved stably in what outsiders would considered to be a concerning state. The Pride Leader of Brille is known as the "New God," which has its own corresponding article.
