Johanna IV succeeded her mother, Elias Rembrandt Johanna Evasdottir, as emperor of the Saltkrigere Empire. She cared little for ruling and little of her action proved productive for the government. After forcing Caripreet to pay a settlement for the death of Emperor Rembrandt II, she resided in her quarters for the majority of her career. The finances went directly to the family, which she now served as the matriarch over. This money was used for selfish reasons, purchasing Elduri opium and abusing it in private. Her guards recalled long stints of motionless sleep, which they occasionally cut short to determine the emperor's condition, only to be reprimanded. One of these naps would be her last, as she overconsumed opium until her last breath. The standing guards during her overdose did not interfere, assuming the event to be one of her intentional deep-sleeps. As punishment for their lack of interference, Abdul III would have the guards put to the sword. Though Johanna's successor understood the dilemma the guards found themselves in, he claimed their death was a matter of principal.
