Kar' Karak Desert
The Kar' Karak desert is a large sandy expanse on the continent of Zaquii. The desert is hot, arid, and rainfall is a once in a lifetime experience on the dunes of the Kar' Karak desert. The sand dunes rise up high like little hills dotting the landscape, or sometimes not so little hills. Winds can cause burning sand to pelt your entire body, like being hit by thousands of tiny hot pellets. During the night the desert gets cold to the point of hypothermia, yet somehow in these harsh conditions some life still manages to live on the seemingly bare wastelands of the Kar' Karak desert. Burrowing animals, birds, bugs, and even plants can manage to survive in the harsh environment.
Geography
The Kar' Karak desert is not as flat as you may think for a sandy desert. It is actually covered in massive dunes which can grow to be incredibly tall. The dunes can appear as huge hills but be weary, if the wind picks up (Which it often does) the dunes could be shifted onto you, suffocating you in the process. Winds are constantly shifting the dunes making the landscape appear different any time you look out at the expanse with little to find your way. Yet the sunsets of the Kar' Karak desert are beautiful as the seemingly endless horizon turns into a deep orange accented with the vibrant pinks only found in the clouds during dusk. The only thing to break up the scenery is the rare oasis which can be found within the sands, the only notable oasis of any significant size in the Kar' Karak desert is the Ulea oasis out in the middle of the desert with some of the only fresh water found in the entire area.
Fauna & Flora
While as a desert life is sparse some things still manage to survive. Cacti and succulents live off very little water spread through out the desert, these plants give food, water, and shelter to other creatures relying on them to survive. Birds and bugs drink from the cacti, burrowing creatures keep themselves sheltered from the sun before preying on what bugs and insects they can find. Small shrubs and bushes lie isolated in the sand. Dangerous creatures like scorpions can kill the unsuspecting traveler and vultures will feed on your remains. Yet in the oasis's of the Kar' Karak desert, grasses, trees, bushes, and fish can survive. The fresh water bringing out life in the mostly dry, dead lands.
Natural Resources
While the Kar' Karak desert is harsh and unforgiving it still has exploitable natural resources. In the city of Dar' Rak' Da the fruit and water of cacti are processes and fashioned into expensive delicacies. Sometimes even the very flesh of the cacti will be sold for its special uses. Yet most importantly for many years the dragon born have been harvesting the natural fuel buried deep underneath the sand known as "Ektenum", Ektenum is a rare substance believed to have origins in space and possibly be created by great transmutation magic from some unknown source. Whatever its origin, Ektenum is one of the most indispensable resources for the dragon born of Dar' Rak' Da, being used for their power supply, magic items, and fuel for every part of their daily lives. It comes in multiple forms, as a gas, a solid, it even can be found within liquid and be dissolved in liquid form underground. A huge bounty of gold also lives beneath the sand, the city of Dar' Rak' Da is built on a massive cache of this gold which is why it is called the golden city.
