Wyverncrest

General Information

In the Misty Sea east of Akora, rests the country of Wyverncrest. Lead by the Wyvernian Arcanum, Wyverncrest has connections to almost every country in the Mortal Realm due to their wealth of arcane knowledge and artifacts.

Geography

The Wyvernian landscape consists of wide open plains with rolling hills that stretch from Qol'Gorok down to the mouth of the WYvernian Channel.

On the southern edge of the capital city stands the Drake Claw Range whose peaks stretch beyond the clouds while the southern reaches of Wyverncrest around Iar'Benkhor are made of cold, wetlands that reach out to the ocean. On the eastern end of Wyverncrest is Wen'Taris Bluff, a sheer cliff-face that contains veins of valuable minerals including the ever elusive Blue-Stone.

The Wyvernian Arcanum

As Laan's forefront of arcane technology and research, Wyverncrest's government is run by the Wyvernian Arcanum. This double duty of both running the country and seeing to the arcane curiosities of the rest of Laan makes the members of the Arcanum indespensible. While the Grand Arbiter maintains peace in Wyverncrest, their constituents and underlings will fulfil obligations to other countries.

Organisations and Ethos

Wyvernian's are predominantly Kobolds and Lizardfolk. And while the other major races of Laan are present in the country, Wyvernian ethos stems from Kobold and Lizardfolk ideals. As such, their motto Vivus et Bene translates to Alive and Well from old common.

While many take this at face value, the phrase means much more to Kobolds. Kobolds in other societies are subservient to their Lizardfolk cousins and even more so to other draconic beings such as drakes, wyverns and dragons. The phrase, to them, means they have survived those ordeals and now stand at the top of the food chain in Wyverncrest.

Notable History

Age of Dragons (120-260)

Wyverncrest began as the roosting place for many dragons who spent their time claiming more territory and fighting over power. This era in Wyvernian history is mostly spoken, as few in this time could write and even less could translate the draconic language.

Rise of the Twins (260)

Shortly after the infighting had died down, the dragons began to rally behind two beings who exemplified their virtues. These two were brother and sister, and achieved the status of demigod at the same time earning themselves the name The Twins.

These dragon-demi gods were Tyr'Gorok and Aro'Tesh.

Draconic Cold War (260-1200)

With dragons capable of living for extreme lengths of time, and many of them being petty it was only natural that the two groups behind the Twins would begin to squabble over trivial things once again. However, instead of outright warfare, the Twins had agreed to open discussion with one another and give their followers time to state their cases.

These discussions went on for centuries, outliving many of the Kobolds and Lizardfolk who served their draconic masters.

Draconic Civil War (1200-1430)

As the discussions came to an end, many became restless as no real progress was made. Thus the dragons behind Tyr'Gorok began to lash out and claim territory, dominating the mortals of the lands they claimed. Aro'Tesh was forced to retaliate starting a conflict that led to many night-skies filled with fire, ice and lightning as the dragons waged war on their kinsmen.

The conflict ended with Aro'Tesh being brutally wounded during her final confrontation with her brother. Tyr'Gorok had robbed her of her wings, grounding her and making her incapable of flight. In draconic culture, this is seen as taboo and many dragons left the front to pursue lives elsewhere. Tyr'Gorok, feeling betrayed, also fled across the sea never to be seen again in those lands.

Culture

Unlike the other countries of Laan, Wyverncrest's population is predominantly comprised of Kobolds and Lizardfolk. Surprisingly, despite their size and usually tribal structure, Kobolds are the ruling class in Wyverncrest, and have been the only race in its history to hold the seat of Grand Arbiter.

While many Lizardfolk cultures are centred on strong hunters and warriors, and Kobold cultures are built around survival and trapping; Wyvernian culture is all about magical prowess. The standard greeting between Wyverncrest's higher classes is not the shaking of hands, but a display of ones control of magic. As such, even the great generals of Wyvernian history have been recorded to know simple spells for the odd ocaission that they dine with Wyvernian nobility.

Assets

Wyverncrest is home to the Arcavault, a labrynthine catacomb for magical devices. From here members of the Wyvernian Arcanum collect, catalogue and maintain magical items of varying degrees of power.
